Aims of the Subject
  • Culture of Reading: Foster "reading to learn" and "learning to read" via the school-based PLP-R/W Programme (KS1) and KIP (KS2).
  • Cross-Curricular Learning: Conduct reading across the curriculum to integrate subject knowledge, national security education, and values education.
  • Curriculum Development: Build a consistent English curriculum by strengthening basic competencies, the four language skills, the nine generic skills, and positive values through school-based unit booklets and e-learning.
  • Creative Writing: Drive creative writing through school-based writing booklets and external writing competitions.
  • Assessment for Learning: Incorporate self-assessment and peer assessment directly into the school-based curriculum.
  • Interest Cultivation: Motivate students through English Wednesdays games, Halloween recess parties, the LKK Gazette, and co-curricular activities.
  • Authentic Environment: Provide immersive language exposure via English Wednesday morning assemblies, recess/lunchtime activities, and co-curricular events.
  • Speaking Enhancement: Upgrade speaking skills through:
    • 1-minute talk (P.3–6)
    • 3 and P.6 ‘Speak Easy’ during multi-intelligence sessions
    • 6 Little Orator Class and interview workshops
    • English Ambassador coaching
    • Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival training
    • External storytelling competitions

 

  • Self-Directed Learning: Promote independent learning using e-platforms, and the "Joy to Reading Galaxy" home reading program.
  • Cross-Departmental AI Learning: Partner 4 English teachers with the Computer Studies Department to facilitate AI game-making projects, incorporating smart AI tools to boost students’ tech literacy and English proficiency simultaneously.
  • Reading-to-STEAM Connection: Integrate hands-on STEAM activities into P.3 to P.6 shared reading sessions (e.g. constructing a hot air balloon after reading an informational book about air pressure) to stimulate curiosity, foster critical thinking, and enrich students' contextual language application.
  • Enrichment for High Achievers: Conduct school-based English elite guided reading groups incorporating higher-order thinking skills to stretch high-ability and gifted students. Appoint English Ambassadors to host the morning assemblies on English Wednesdays.
  • Remedial Support: Run Tier 2/Tier 3 intervention groups or "English Booster" sessions for less-abled students.
  • Scaffolded Materials: Create tiered worksheets and graded booklets within the school-based curriculum to suit different ability levels.
  • Life-wide & Immersive Cultural Learning: Implement overseas study tours to broaden students' international horizons, foster intercultural competence, and boost their confidence in using English for authentic communication.
